A Homeowner’s Guide to John Deere Compact Tractors
2/26/2024
In Texas, we know that covering ground is key. With all of this space, John Deere's versatile compact tractors are a dream come true for homeowners, homesteaders, DIYers, and even farmers in need of a daily driver. Whether you're gardening, landscaping, loading materials or something else on your chore list, we've got what you're looking for. Take a look at some of our most popular compact tractor models, and we'll show you some of what they can do.
Recommended for properties up to 5 acres, John Deere's 1 Series features two of our most affordable and widely-loved tractors, the 1023E and 1025R. These tractors are great for tasks like mowing, tilling gardens, hauling materials and general yard maintenance. Don't let their size fool you - these machines are workhorses.
All of John Deere's compact tractors offer several different means of mowing. One of the fastest, most user-friendly options is the Drive Over AutoConnect™ Mid-Mount mower deck. You can attach this one by yourself in only a few minutes, transforming your tractor into a riding lawn mower.
Never underestimate the simplicity and power of a front loader. Our most popular implement by far, the loader can be used in hauling, carrying, basic digging and leveling, and much more. The versatility of this implement gives it a value much higher than its price tag.
We recommend the 2 Series for lawns from 5-10 acres, or a smaller property in need of some heavier lifting. With 31.1 horsepower, the John Deere 2032R stands out as a highlight in this series. With a wheelbase ranging from 63 to 67 inches, the 2 Series still features a high level of maneuverability despite its step up in power.
The larger wheelbase on the 2 Series allows compatibility with larger mower decks like the AutoConnect™ 72D. Additionally, its higher horsepower boasts a heavier lift capacity - haul up to 1,356 lbs. in your loader.
A compact tractor is perfect for homeowners with a large garden. Attach a rotary tiller to turn your soil in no time, and follow that up with a Frontier spreader to evenly distribute seed or fertilizer.
Ranging from 24.4 to 41.6 horsepower, the 3 Series is great for many property sizes. Generally, we recommend it for properties up to 20 acres. The increased horsepower makes the 3 Series ideal for heavy loading jobs, as well as digging, bush hogging, tilling and more.
The backhoe attachment makes these tractors perfect for landscaping tasks such as moving soil, as well as digging and backfilling. Turning your tractor into an excavator, this implement holds a lot of value.
For larger pastures or feed lots, the 3 Series is great for pulling a Frontier rotary cutter and handling brush, weeds and any other rough mowing needs.
This is the largest of John Deere's compact tractor series, and stands as a testament to everything you've come to know and trust in their name. Ideal for up to 40 acres, the 4 Series caters to homeowners with the need for higher power, and performance to match it. Despite being larger than the earlier series, these machines are still versatile, maneuverable and user-friendly, designed with operator comfort in mind.
With a lift capacity of 2,500 lbs, the 4 Series can handle all of your hauling needs, and even has options for Mechanical Self-Leveling loaders for hauling more sensitive materials.
The 4 Series is capable of disking and tilling, making it a great option for homeowners with a hobby farm or large garden, or even larger-scale farmers in need of lighter equipment.
Like all of the earlier series, the 4 Series is a great option for rough mowing and bush hogging. With much higher horsepower and pulling capabilities, you'll cover more land in less time.
